FAQ
Questions from the vault
Straight answers, including the limitations.
Can I play with real ZEC today?
Not yet. ZecVault is in pre-launch testing ahead of mainnet, so you can try every flow with test data. All figures on the site are simulated and labeled as such until launch.
Is ZecVault completely anonymous?
No system should claim that without independent proof. Shielded Zcash transactions hide amounts and parties, and commitments hide your entry, but deposit timing and network metadata can still leak information.
Is it trustless?
Not fully. You do not have to trust the operator for correctness — every result is recomputable — but the operator holds the spending key and could delay payouts or censor entries before close.
Does Zcash run the lottery as a smart contract?
No. Zcash shielded transactions are not programmable smart contracts. Zcash moves value privately; draw logic runs off-chain and is publicly verifiable.
How do I know the draw was fair?
The operator commits to a seed before entries open, the snapshot root is frozen at close, and the randomness mixes in a public beacon round that did not exist yet. The Proof Explorer re-derives every winner in your browser.
What if I lose my credential?
Your credential is the only way to claim. ZecVault does not store it and cannot recover it. Download it and keep it offline.
Will you ever ask for my seed phrase?
Never. No ZecVault page, support agent, or tool will ask for a seed phrase or spending key.
Can someone else claim my prize?
Only with your credential file. Once a claim is made, the nullifier is spent and bound to one payout address, so it cannot be replayed or redirected.
